Met 164,8 millimeter is de Galaxy Note20 iets langer dan de S22 Ultra; maar het is een beetje smaller (77,2 millimeter) - en met slechts 8,1 millimeter merkbaar dunner. Dat merk je ook aan het gewicht, want de Note20 Ultra weegt slechts 208 gram.Samsung gebruikt ook hier glas en metaal, en er zijn zwarte, witte en bruine kleurvarianten.
Praktisch: Zowel de Galaxy S22 Ultra als de Galaxy Note20 Ultra hebben een IP68-certificering. Dit resulteert in een pixeldichtheid van 500 pixels per inch - een indrukwekkende waarde voor een smartphone van dit formaat. Daarnaast is ook de adaptieve verversingssnelheid van 120 Hertz aan boord.
Samsung Galaxy Note20: de nieuwe hands-on powerphone
Het AMOLED-display van de Galaxy Note20 Ultra is met 6,9 inch zelfs nog iets groter. De resolutie is net zo hoog als die van de S22 tegenhanger, vandaar dat de pixeldichtheid iets lager is: 493 pixels per inch. In de praktijk zou dit verschil echter nauwelijks merkbaar moeten zijn. De Note-smartphone biedt je ook een optionele verversingssnelheid van 120 Hertz. Dit werkt echter alleen met een resolutie van 2.316 x 1.080 pixels (Full HD+).
Camera's
De viervoudige camera van de Galaxy S22 Ultra bestaat uit:

De camera ondersteunt 8K-video-opname met 24 frames per seconde. 4K opnames zijn mogelijk met maximaal 60 frames per seconde. De Galaxy Note20 Ultra heeft verder een 108 megapixel hoofdcamera en een 12 megapixel ultragroothoekcamera. De telelens heeft daarentegen een resolutie van 12 megapixel, maar biedt slechts een vijfvoudige optische zoom. Bij DxOMark is het alleen genoeg voor de 33e plaats in de ranglijst van smartphonecamera's (februari 2022).
De frontcamera van de Galaxy S22 Ultra heeft een resolutie van 40 megapixels. Daarmee springt het nieuwere toestel ook op dit vlak uit, aangezien de frontcamera van de Galaxy Note20 Ultra alleen geschikt is voor 10 megapixel selfies.

De Galaxy S22 Ultra is de nieuwere van de twee vlaggenschip-smartphones - en wordt daarom ook geleverd met de nieuwste chipset. De Exynos 2200 is de interne tegenhanger van de Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, de topchip van Qualcomm voor 2022.
Daarnaast is er ofwel 8 gigabyte RAM met 128 gigabyte interne opslagruimte; of een hoofdgeheugen van 12 gigabyte met 256, 512 gigabyte of 1 terabyte aan opslagruimte. De Galaxy S22 draait af fabriek Android 12, aangevuld met Samsung's One UI in versie 4.1.
Galaxy S22 Ultra vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max: Welches Flaggschiff bietet was?
De Galaxy Note20 Ultra wordt aangedreven door de Exynos 990, die als tegenhanger van de Snapdragon 865 waarschijnlijk iets langzamer is dan de Exynos 2200. Het verschil in prestaties zal echter bij dagelijks gebruik nauwelijks merkbaar zijn. Het RAM-geheugen in de Note20 is 12 gigabyte, plus 256 of 512 gigabyte aan opslagruimte. Samsung levert de smartphone met Android 10; de update naar Android 12 is al beschikbaar.
Vooral: de Galaxy Note20 Ultra is de laatste smartphone van Samsung die de mogelijkheid biedt tot geheugenuitbreiding via microSD-kaart. Wel ondersteunen beide smartphones de snelle 5G-dataverbinding.

Als het om de batterij gaat, loopt het nieuwere model ver vooruit: de energieopslag in de Galaxy S22 Ultra heeft een capaciteit van 5.000 milliampère-uur. De batterij ondersteunt snelladen met maximaal 45 watt. Volgens Samsung laad je de batterij in slechts 35 minuten op van 0 naar 70 procent. U moet echter een bijbehorende snellader apart aanschaffen, omdat deze niet bij de levering is inbegrepen.
De batterij van de Galaxy Note20 Ultra heeft een capaciteit van 4.500 mAh en is daarmee iets kleiner. Ook ondersteunt de phablet uit 2020 alleen snelladen tot 25 watt. Draadloos opladen werkt overigens bij beide modellen met een vermogen van 15 watt.

Praktisch: met beide Samsung-smartphones kunt u ook andere apparaten draadloos opladen - dankzij het zogenaamde omgekeerde opladen. Dit werkt met zowel de Galaxy S22 Ultra als de Galaxy Note20 Ultra met 4,5 watt aan vermogen.

De Galaxy S22 Ultra is niet alleen qua features het huidige vlaggenschip van Samsung, ook de prijs maakt hem tot een high-end smartphone. De instapprijs voor de eenvoudigste versie met 8/128 gigabyte ligt net onder de 1.250 euro.
Voor de versie met 12/256 gigabyte vraagt Samsung in februari 2022 honderd euro meer, dus zo'n 1.350 euro. Wil je 512 gigabyte aan opslagruimte, dan moet je rekenen op zo'n 1.450 euro; het topmodel kost net geen 1.650 euro.
De prijs voor de Galaxy Note20 Ultra lag bij de lancering in de late zomer van 2020 in een vergelijkbare range: het model met 256 gigabyte kostte net geen 1.270 euro, de versie met 512 gigabyte rond de 1.370 euro. Inmiddels ligt de "straatprijs" voor de smartphone echter al ver onder de 1.000 euro.
